There are two million Afghans living in Iran. They came because of job opportunities and to escape the harshness of Soviet rule and later the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. These musicians left because music was banned by the Taliban. Reese Erlich is seen here recording these musicians in Mashhad, the Iranian city with the highest concentration of Afghan refugees.
